E4 Cards CEDH Tournament Conduct and Rules Addendum
Refining the competitive experience for our community.
To ensure the highest level of engaging and exciting gameplay, we have updated our tournament structure. The following rules serve as an addition to the official MTR/IPG and the Commander MTR/IPG and are in effect for all cEDH events at E4 Cards. This is a living policy that may change with the needs of our community, but will always be documented on this page.
Hygiene/Etiquette Policy
To ensure a clean, comfortable environment for all players, we will be enforcing the following points for play at E4:
- Personal Hygiene: Please attend our events in a presentable state that does not present smells that disrupt other players' enjoyment. This includes personal odor as well as excessive colognes, perfumes, etc.
- Equipment Hygiene: Please bring decks, boxes, mats, dice, etc that are clean and well maintained. In the process of play, other players will be required to handle your deck and possibly accessories. When sleeves, mats, etc become soiled it is your responsibility to replace or clean as needed.
- Respect for Others' Items: Conversely, when handling another players' items, treat them with the respect due something you will need to replace if damaged. Keep food and beverage away from others' items, and maintain clean hands when handling another players' things.
- Enforcement: Staff reserves the right to request correction of poor hygiene situations, and provide remedies up to and including dismissal from events in our space if hygiene or etiquette issues continue.
Draw Policy
To maintain a play-focused environment, we are implementing limitations on draws:
- Swiss Rounds: Intentional or offered draws will be awarded zero points in standings when calculating final cuts.
- Final Table or Top Cut: There are no draws during Final Table or Top Cut. Players will play until a single winner is determined.
Table Composition & Byes
We prioritize full pods to ensure game balance:
- The "Bye" Rule: A bye awards zero points toward league standings or individual tournament placement. A player assigned a bye will have 3 opponents added to their opponent history with a 0.2 win rate.
-
Pod Limits: To minimize byes, we allow for up to two 3-player pods per round. No more than one player will ever receive a Bye in a single round. Based on # of players, this calculates out as follows:
# Players Pod Composition Even 4 All 4-player pods +1 Extra All 4-player pods, 1x Bye +2 Extra 2x 3-player pods, No Bye +3 Extra 1x 3-player pod, No Bye
Integrity and Pace
- Deals & Honesty: Table politics are part of the game, but honesty is mandatory. All deals made between players will be strictly enforced. Not answering questions or making statements about intent is perfectly acceptable, however, stating intent and doing something different will be a game rules violation, and will be enforced as a warning or turn skip, depending on severity and judge discretion.
- Speed of Play: To ensure rounds finish on time, "Slow Play" will be strictly monitored. Players are expected to maintain a reasonable pace, and a judge may ask an active player to take a game action within 60 seconds or pass the turn.
The Philosophy of the Win
We believe the spirit of cEDH is found in playing to win! To support this, Multi-Week League Standings will generally be calculated on table wins only. Draws and Byes will not contribute to your standing in multiple event E4 CEDH leagues. Please see individual leagues for detailed point information.
We understand these may not be popular choices with some players, and accept that there is no ruleset that makes everyone happy. We are working to curate a play environment that is fun and rewarding, and rewards gameplay, not situational manipulation.
We welcome constructive feedback either in-person to Steve in the shop, or via email to hello@e4cards.com.
